West house boasts 4 lakes The lakes are stocked with Rainbow trout from 2 lbs upwards with the fishery record being 19lb. There are four lakes of 4 acres, 2 acres and 1.5 acres and 1 acre, each stocked with these high quality fish. Set in grassland the fishery offers easy access to over 95% of the available bank space without any major obstacles for casting. Access for disabled persons is available by prior arrangement.

A large car park, fishing lodge and toilets are provided. Meals are available at the public houses in the village but tea and coffee soup are available at the lodge.

Natural fly life is prolific with hatches of Pond Olives, Lake Olives, Mayfly, Great Red Sedge, smaller Sedges Buzzers and Damsel fly. Although lures are successful early and late in the season, artificial patterns representing the natural insects are the most predominant catchers of fish.

Successful patterns are; Pheasant Tail Nymph, GRHE, Buzzer’s (various colours), Damsel nymph and Daddies. Dawson’s Olive, Montana and Cats Whisker, Fritz patterns are the most popular lures.
WEST LAKE

The original and oldest lake. Approx 1.5 acres in size varying in depth from 4-11ft. Abundant natural food in this lake and small pattern files are often the secret.
HORSESHOE LAKE

The second lake which is wrapped around west lake with a distinctive ‘horseshoe’ shape. Approx 2 acres in size with a depth of 5-7ft. Another very natural lake with an abundance of natural life. Small bays and overhanging trees and clear water make this lake an ideal stalking lake.
MILL LAKE

The largest of the lakes at approx 4 acres in size. With two islands and bays this lake gives plenty of options for the angler. Generally slightly more coloured than the other lakes this appeals to the lure angler.
FOX LAKE

The newest and smallest of the lakes. This 1 acre lake is very natural with clear water. This lake is fishing by NYMPHS, BUZZERS, or DRIES ONLY. A great lake for the stalking angler, keep low and present your flies in the most natural fashion.

All the lakes are stocked on a weekly basis from Top class fish farms in the Yorkshire Moors.

1. All persons visiting the fishery do so at their own risk
2. Any person found fishing outside the permitted hours, or taking more fish than the current permit allows WILL BE PROSECUTED.
3. Anglers must possess a current EA rod licence as well as a permit to fish these waters.
4. Fishing commences at 8.00am and finishes at dusk or at the discretion of the fishery staff.
5. Fishing is by fly only using generally accepted tackle and techniques. Maximum TWO BARBLESS flies to be attached to the leader.
6. ALL FISH MUST BE LANDED WITH A LANDING NET.
7. ALL BROWN TROUT TO BE RETURNED.
8. Details of all fish caught (including those returned) must be entered on the catch return sheet.
9. WADING IS NOT ALLOWED-IT IS DANGEROUS.
10. The following are specifically excluded from the fishery: guns, dogs, radios and non-fishing visitors.
11. Anglers have access to the immediate ground around the shoreline of the fishery. They must not wander across the pasture land or disturb grazing animals.
12. Anglers are expected to behave in a gentlemanly manner. They must not deposit litter, disturb or feed wildlife or behave in any manner detrimental to the fishery, fishing or sport of other anglers.
13. MONOFILAMENT NYLON MUST NOT BE DISCARDED-IT IS DANGEROUS TO BOTH WILDLIFE AND FARM STOCK. CUT IT INTO SMALL LENGTHS OR TAKE IT HOME.

Visited West lakes yesterday. First time I'd fished here but I was pleased with my day. Caught two average rainbows in the first lake at the bottom of the pathway down. The lake was quiet murky but later found out this was due to the Carp in in that were spawning or doing something dirty :) I caught at the tail end which seemed to have the most activity. Stayed from 3 til 7, paid £8 on sporting ticket. The lake is stocked every two weeks I was told by a local.

Had a little go on the mill lake but didn't have any luck. This lake was much bigger and very clear, but the fish didnt seem as active so returned to the bottom one. A guy near me pulled out a nice rainbow of about 20lbs. Though I didn't see what it was caught on.

All in all, a nice venue and I'll return

Fished a while back, only caught one rainbow but it was a fit one. I couldn't rate the staff as I didn't see any, as it was a money in envelope job. Very nice place to visit though and I enjoyed fishing there. Be back again soon
