Despite the unsettled forecast, conditions on average were favourable for the 115 visiting anglers who averaged a visit of 3.3 fish per angler.
Anglers have had some good bags on all three lakes. Mr P Down from Ashington on West Lake landed a 9lb 12oz rainbow. Mr. B Palmer from South Shields using a Zonker caught an 8lb rainbow on South Lake and Mr A Grey from Crook, a fin-perfect 6lb rainbow from East Lake. Fish rising to black spiders have extended the days fishing and anglers changing tactics to dry's have enjoyed some of the best evening sport. Junior club members had a great days sport on Saturday. Five juniors landed up to 13 fish, biggest at 4lb. We look forward to seeing more juniors this Saturday 21st April at the clubs first junior event of 2012. (image attached)
Newcastle angling club Hoy & Hope held a fishing competition at the lakes on Sunday and sampled local produce from our caterers, Bradley Burn Farm Shop in Wolsingham. Feedback from the competition was positive with comments like: “quality fighting fish” and “excellent day all-round”.
The top four performing flies this week are: Buzzers Black & Olive, Black & Olive CDC’s and tiny Black Spider patterns sized from 28' to 32'
The tagged fish still remains uncaught and the prize total has increased to £175
There’s no sign of any change to the forecast so it remains very much a case of picking the day and dressing for all four seasons!
A fly fishing competition will be held on West Lake, Sunday 22nd April. 1st prize £200, 2nd prize £100, with other prizes on offer including donations from Anglers Lodge & Ultimate Tackle. Anglers must contact the lodge to reserve their place.
